Anne of Green Gables: The Musical
“If it hadn’t been for you, if it hadn’t been for me, if it hadn’t been for all of us, I wonder where she’d be!”
Thank you to the St. Paul’s community for your support of another successful musical. There were glitches – quite big ones – as Mother Nature decided to challenge us. We were unable to rehearse on Sunday, March 30, and then had to cancel the Preview Performance (April 2) and two shows (Thursday April 3 and Friday April 4 evenings). We were checking the church daily to see if power was back on and we were very disappointed. We had decided to cancel all shows if the power was not back on by 6 pm on Friday night. We received a report that it was not back on, and sent out the email to 75 or so cast and crew to cancel performances on the weekend when we received a call from Blair at 6:15 – “The power came on 10 seconds ago!” Then the flurry of work started – do we have all the ushers, do we have make up people, can we let the patrons know they can rebook, can we add another performance? Somehow, all the details were sorted and the show went on!
We understand that many of our patrons were without communication, even though St. Paul’s power was on. We understand your frustration; we were also disappointed that our communications could not go out to everyone. Emails have gone out to those who purchased tickets online and many patrons were able to rebook tickets for Saturday or Sunday night. We also had to cancel the dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. If you were unable to rebook tickets (from Thursday and Friday) or if purchased dinner tickets, you have two choices.
You may choose to donate that money to St. Paul’s or you may request a refund. Please let us know what you’d like to do by emailing anneofgreengables@stpaulscentre.ca . We are hoping to hear from everyone by May 31 at the latest so we can do our final calculations on the contribution to the church. If we don’t hear from you, we will assume you wish to donate to St. Paul’s.
If you saw the show, you witnessed the incredible talent and energy of the cast, the skill of the musicians and technical staff, and the positive message of the musical itself. Major thanks need to be expressed to a few people. Jody Maltby is a Director extraordinaire who brings out the best in cast members of all ages and experience levels. Blair Bailey put together a great band – most of the members had connections to the cast or St. Paul’s. Mark Webster coordinated the technical details of microphones and lighting in such a professional way, we appreciate his expertise greatly (he makes us sound good!).
In these times, the messages in “Anne” are most welcome and we hope for that positivity to last all year. Thank you again for your patience as we worked through all the issues; and thank you to the many volunteers who make it possible for St, Paul’s to mount quality musical productions.
